It’s been a little tense
between P and I lately and everyone around us can sense it, but I guess we’re not
exactly trying to hide it at this point either. I knew confronting P about her
forbidden crush would result in her harbouring some sort of negativity towards
me… but I did what I had to, and now I must respect how she chooses to handle
things further.
In all honesty, I can’t pay
P’s problems my full attention these days, or even mine for that matter. I feel
so mentally scattered between P’s issues, my brother’s health and my upcoming
exams – it’s a lot for anyone. The
strange thing is that every time I try and focus on working out one aspect of
my life, everything else around me stacks up – it’s impossible, I can’t seem to
beat this cycle! And you wanna know the worst part of all of this? Not having
my best friend’s support to help me through this stressful time.
Needless to say it’s been a
struggle to stay strong for others lately… constantly trying to has led me to
feel kind of broken within myself. It feels like I’ve been running on empty,
and I’ve come to realise I needed to stop and figure how to balance these
stressors in my life. So I did what I do best:
do some careful, in-depth research! Little did I know that something we
spend almost one third of our lives doing was the answer all along! Yes! I’m
talking about a good night’s rest.
Simple yet timeless!
It turns out that sleeping
7-9 hours per night can significantly reduce the possibility of feeling
stressed out the following day. So, instead of spending those few extra hours
studying or should I say, worrying, hit the sheets early and recharge yourself
for a more productive tomorrow!
Here are my top six tried
and tested tricks on ensuring a good night’s rest:
1. A
Schedule: Maintain
the same meal times, caffeine breaks and work out time. This helps your body to
regulate the same sleep and wake-up time too.
2. Your
Environment: Just
like you have specific workspace preferences; take time to ensure dim lighting,
a peaceful environment and cool temperatures for your bedroom.
3. Screens:
At least
30 minutes before you’d like to fall sleep, put away all your screens and
invest that time into reading a magazine or novel instead.
4. Perks:
A great way to nudge your body into a deeper, more
re-energizing sleep is by enjoying a warm cup of chamomile tea or lighting a
scented candle! (My personal favourite
is anything with Vanilla and Cinnamon).
5. Introspection: It’s important to de-clutter
your mind in order to fall asleep easily. What I find works best for me is
doing guided meditation or breathing exercises to help my mind completely
relax. Playing your favourite (calming) music, or a soundtrack of waves crashing
can facilitate this process tremendously too!
6. Invest
In Yourself:
Make sure that your sheets, pillows and mattress are comfortable! Sometimes we
forget they can make all the difference. You can even flip over your mattress
for an immediate change tonight!
Hope this helps you girls
out! I’m off to clock in a good night’s rest to tackle tomorrow!
Until next time.
