Hai
Girls,
Some of you may already
know that my eighteenth birthday is coming up soon, and I want to officially
announce that I’m going to throw the best party yet! It’ll be a classy and sophisticated
yet fun grown-up party… no more scavenger hunts or cartoon cakes… I’m in the
big leagues now!!
Goofing around with some seriously classy decorations!?! |
So I’ve been thinking a lot
about what makes turning eighteen suddenly sooo different from turning fifteen,
sixteen, seventeen etc. I guess the biggest change is that as an eighteen-year-old,
I’ll be legally classified as an adult and thus responsible for my actions.
There’s no Ma or Pa to depend on if I do something stupid – my consequences
will directly affect me!
Seeing my friends getting
older and more “adult-like” has also brought some surprises. I experienced this
recently with a friend whom I thought wouldn’t stand up for me, but incredibly,
he did and that’s a whole new side of his personality I wasn’t aware of before.
I’ve always known him to be a less-than-serious joker. It’s nice to see that
he’s got a more mature side too.
Recently, a few of my
friends also got part-time jobs, which is another aspect of being a responsible
young adult. M surprised all of us when we saw him dressed as an Elf for a
hip-hop gig at the mall too!! Who knew that adulthood could bring so many
surprises??
Black and white streamers look fantastic... just not on me. |
Sure, I’m still nervous
about this transition to adulthood but I’m also ready to officially become my
own person, both in my own eyes and in the eyes of those around me.
Back
to my awesome birthday party – it’s coming up soon, I’ve got a huge guest list
and it’s going to be like nothing I’ve done before. In honour of this occasion,
I would like to share a few tips for planning a fun but classy 18th
birthday party!
1. Pick a colour scheme that
will set the tone for your night. Decide on two to three understated and
sophisticated colours to use - both on
your invitation and for your décor.
My favourite party colours are silver, gold and white |
2. Balloons are fun and
festive, even for a classy party. Just make sure they are in the same colours
as your party theme!
3. Don’t worry too much about
providing a complete dinner either, it’s much more interactive to have finger
foods so people keep moving and mingling.
4. Besides food, don’t forget
that drinks can be a lot of fun too. You don’t need alcohol just coz you’re turning 18. You can have
a selection of fun mocktails and soda mixes!
5. The music at your party
will set the mood for the night. Instead of just pop songs, start the evening
with mellow ambient pop or lounge music and as the night wears on, transition
to faster-paced tunes to get the crowd up on their feet and dancing!
That’s
it for this week girls, I hope my party tricks help you for your next event!
Until next time, mwah!
Xoxo
