Hai Girls,
This week I realised
something I haven’t acknowledged in a long time – just how privileged I am to
have a family who is able to support me in ALL ways.
I see my friends worrying
about getting part-time jobs just so they can pitch in to help with their
family’s monthly expenses. I’ve also seen them work long hours at the expense
of their free time and even their health! Whereas, I’m in a position to do
whatever I’d like with my earnings and
still get an allowance on top of that!
Despite my family’s favourable
situation, I don’t want to be someone who takes this for granted. One day,
it’ll be my turn to support my parents when they grow old… so it makes sense
for me to make something of myself and stand on my own two feet sooner rather
than later! Which is why I think it’s a good idea for me to get a part-time job
too, perhaps something related to blogging or fashion. I’ll earn money AND gain
valuable industry experience – it’s a total win-win!!
I’ve also spent this week reflecting
on my lifestyle and spending habits. As most of you already know, I LOOOOVE to
shop so this was a tough one. I’ve decided to use whatever earnings I have as
well as my allowance in a way that supports all
aspects of my life, not just leisure and shopping. So yeah, this includes: cabs
and MRT fare, food, drinks, phone bills and basically anything I buy which I
don’t necessarily need. This will automatically
force me to spend less money, and also get me a step closer to being less dependent
on my parents, and more financially me!
So girls, I’d like to share
with you some tips and tricks for managing your money:
1. Set up a budget! Start noting down all your spending in a
month into different categories (e.g. phone bills, leisure, travel, etc.).
2. Keep a spending diary! Start noting down each and every purchase
you make (e.g. cab fare, coffee etc.) – after a month you’ll have an easier
time analysing where you can cut back!
3. Set a savings goal! Come up with a goal at the end of a 30 day period,
and start saving for it! This will give you a concrete idea of how much to save
regularly per week or month.
4. Give regularly! Let’s not forget the less fortunate either.
It’s a good habit to give regularly to charity, to support a cause of your choice.
You can decide how much you want to give, and no amount is too small. It will
also give you a better appreciation for the money you earn!
These are some of the
simple things you can start doing right now to manage your finances smarter! So
work hard and save smart! Until next time! Mwah!
