Pamper your Ma by doing her nails! |
I am SO pleased to report
that the dinner with my family, T and J went so much smoother than I expected.
It was honestly just a huge relief to know that Pa is finally facing his past. My
fear was that if he didn’t, he would eventually regret it… and regret is
something you can’t talk someone out of - it’s something they must deal with
alone. So knowing that he’s finally acknowledged them as a part of his family
puts my mind at ease.
However, on the negative
side, even though I’m happy we’ve reached such a major family breakthrough, it
was difficult watching Ma struggle to keep calm and composed. I can’t even
begin to understand how difficult all this must be for her, but I’m so proud to
see how hard she tried, and how she went above and beyond by showing support
for the entire situation.
You know, if I’m being
honest with myself… sometimes I almost feel a little guilty about pushing Pa to
reconnect with T and J… because that in turn means that Ma has to accept Pa’s newly
discovered past, and everything that comes with it. Who knows what must be
going through her mind these days? I can sense her struggle in coming to terms
with family ties that don’t necessarily involve her, and I just wish there was
something I could do to make her transition easier. And I look forward to the
day she makes peace with the truth, because this is our reality now as a family.
And so this week I’ve made
a promise to myself: to never let Ma feel like she’s being forgotten. It’s important
she knows that nothing else has changed, because no matter who comes into our
life, I’m still my Ma’s daughter, and nothing can jeopardise the unique bond we
share. So in keeping with my promise to assure her she’s still that special Ma
of ours, I’m sharing some of my simplest and thoughtful ways I can remind her
that she’s truly, one of a kind.
1. Organise a spa day or spend
a girls’ night in and paint each other’s nails.
2. Run all her errands for the
week.
3. Cook her favourite meal
(and do the dishes too!).
4. Don’t forget to thank her
for what she does for your family on a daily basis.
5. Buy her flowers just to
brighten up the home!
So why not treat your Ma
today? Until next time…
