Hai Girls,
This past week has been… hmm how
should I put this… eventful. Two
words: cyber bullying. A video of me confessing my crush for B went viral and
it brought out lots of mean attacks and ugliness. :(
I wanted to hide from everyone and
stay home, but you know what, everything is online anyway so there’s no
escaping and eventually I had to face the world.
But it’s okay! I realized that the
only thing that video reveals about me is that I’m brave. Saying how you really feel in front of everyone isn’t easy,
and it’s definitely not something to be ashamed of either. It takes guts,
right?
This week also taught me something
else important: looking outside yourself can put things in perspective and help
you forget your own problems. The moment I decided to save a schoolmate from a
cruel prank at school, I realized how silly my own problems actually were. All
I needed to do was change my attitude.
I was left with two options: sulk about people’s opinions (which I can’t
control and don’t matter), or help a friend who was in trouble, now, in the
moment – what would you choose?
So, the best way to fight back
against the negativity of bullies and trolls is to BE POSITIVE and spread
kindness and goodness!
When I was living in India, I was
inspired by the Rice Challenge: a
social movement where people were challenged to buy a sack of rice and gave it
to someone in need. They took photos while doing so, posted them on Instagram
and tagged a few friends to challenge them too! It was unreal to see how this small
gesture by a few people ended up feeding countless families for weeks!
So, this week.... you guessed it! I
challenge YOU (and me) to take a step away from our own little problems, and do
a little act of kindness, and do our part to spread a little goodness in the
world.
It doesn’t have to be a huge thing.
It could be as simple as bringing your tray back at the foodcourt to help the
cleaning auntie and uncle, holding the lift door open for your neighbour,
picking up litter that you see around you, or leaving a nice note for a loved
one to say “thank you”.
Ugh. I hate litterbugs!
I challenge you to do something kind, take a photo of yourself, post it
on Instagram with the hashtag #kindnessact and #frufrushru, tag five friends
and of course, me @FruFru.Shru! I really do hope you all get something out of
this challenge like I did!
For my helper Lathika, who’s a wonder woman!
That’s all I’ve got for you this
week! Until next time, Mwah!
Hey! You sure are a fighter. A strong one
ReplyDeletelol xD
ReplyDeleteYou definitely own the fight song. Have you listened to it? Fight Song By Rachel Platten? It really suits your personality!
