Hai
Girls!
What happens when two close
friends – no, best friends – are
banned from seeing each other by their parents? Two guys I know, let’s call
them M and E, were recently handed down this punishment and told to focus on
studying for their exams and to forget about hanging out with each other.
At first, I felt sorry for
them, losing a buddy overnight and not having each other to rely on during this
tough exam period. So I helped them pass messages and study notes and energy
drinks and other stuff back and forth… until I got annoyed that I was being
used like some kind of secret spy messenger. As if I don’t have better things
to do… like study for my A-levels!
Yes, it really did annoy me
at first, but then it also got me thinking how cool it was that these two guys
have such a close friendship. I can’t help but acknowledge how cute and frankly
impressive their determination to show how much they care for each other is. Even
during the most stressful time in our lives, M and E go out of their way to
make sure the other person is okay… if that’s not true friendship, then I don’t
know what is.
You know how when you’re
young, you and a friend would call yourselves “BFF” – “best friends forever”?
And you really thought it would be forever. But as you grow up, you inevitably
drift apart and then one day, you’re not BFFs anymore. Now with our JC
graduation approaching, I can see that things are bound to change. The guys
will go to NS and the girls will be scattered into different universities all
across the globe. Meeting up and being there for each other won’t be as
convenient as it is now… we’ll have to make a little more effort. How many
friendships will stand the test of time?
And so I want to dedicate
this week’s blog to being there for your friends no matter how busy you are in
life. It takes only a few seconds to send someone a text message, or better
yet, a photo with a motivational quote on it! Here are some of my favourite
motivational quotes that have gotten me through some of my most challenging
times in life.
Send them to a friend to
let them know you’re thinking of them! And good luck, everyone, for your
A-level exam revisions!

2. Believe in yourself so strongly that the world can’t help
but believe in you too.
3. The only way to have a
friend is to be one. —Ralph Waldo

4.
Failure will
never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough. — Og Mandino
5. Don’t take life too
seriously; you’ll never get out of it alive.
