This week has been… a difficult one for sure. I don’t really
know how to fully process it yet, which is why I wanted to blog about it here.
A schoolmate from JC got
into an unexpected accident, and now his life has changed forever. You always
hear about these crazy incidents from afar, but when it happens to someone you
know in real life, it can really change your perspective.
I guess I’m just shocked by
the thought of how anything can happen
to anyone at anytime. It doesn’t matter if you’re rich or poor, popular or not,
young or old... Life doesn’t care who you
are, if something’s going to happen it will, regardless of any other factors.
Then again, this incident
didn’t just happen purely by chance. This school friend made some unwise
decisions and took risky chances. I’m sure he had friends who tried to give him
good advice but clearly he didn’t listen.
This has made me realise just
how important it is to be aware of the issues in your life. Ignoring warning
signs and red flags will lead you into trouble for sure! There’s nothing wrong
with having problems, in fact it’s such a big part of life!
Trust me, I know. Last year,
I faced so much, but I was so lucky to have had family and friends who helped me
realise I didn’t have to face my problems alone. Sometimes, you may not even
realise that you’re trying to deal with your issues in unhealthy ways by
resorting to quick fixes.
If you need help, then
please… seek help. You may feel like
no one’s listening but that’s not true! Talk to a friend. Or, there are so many
qualified professionals you can get in touch with whenever you feel like things
are getting too overwhelming for you to handle alone. But this only works if you yourself are in touch with how
you’re feeling so you can take a step back, assess the situation and then make
an informed decision, instead of doing something rash and regretting your
actions later.
So this week, I thought it
would be appropriate to practice mindfulness to stay in touch with and be aware
of your emotions. Let’s make this a weeklong challenge because then you’ll see
real changes and benefits (in my experience at least!).
Here are five simple
stretches I want you girls to hold for one minute each. Try this once a day! While
you do them, I want you to actively be aware of each sensation you feel across
your body, and don’t think about anything else - it’s harder than it sounds!
Here are the five stretches:
1. Downward facing dog
2. Upward dog
3. Forward fold
4. Mountain Pose
5. Child’s Pose
