Recently I’ve sensed a bit of
tension between my parents… I’m sure it’s nothing, just a minor squabble that’s
normal between married couples. I guess everyone assumes their parents are a
perfect match, and will always be perfectly happy together, but every
relationship has its bumps along the way. I’m learning that relationships don’t
magically fall into place. They demand care, communication and above all, constant
effort from both sides - despite how long two people may have been together.
Based on what I’ve
witnessed with my parents, my friends, and now my own experience with S, I understand
how tricky a relationship can be sometimes. Each one of us are already battling
with our own struggles on a daily basis – our studies, or work and even personal
goals and failures – each of us is already complex enough. So it’s no surprise
that by adding a significant other to the mix, inevitably there will be moments
of stress and tension.
But through all of this, we
must remember that people aren’t mind readers. It’s important to express to our
loved ones as often as we can how much we appreciate them. Wouldn’t it be nice to
receive a thoughtful message at the end of a long day? To know someone is
thinking of you and appreciating you? It would go a long way towards diffusing
any tension that might be building up.
Despite how long two people
may have been together, we have to make an active effort to let our other
halves know how much we value them in our lives. Because nothing is guaranteed,
and I promise you, no one ever gets tired of being appreciated.
So send that thank you/I miss you/ I can’t wait to see
you/ I love you text! Because if you don’t, they’ll never know! That’s all
for this week, until next time!
