Today's post
is going to be dedicated to my favourite – and only – niece, J. Because she's
finally turning sixteen! Congratulations J! It's not every day a girl turns
sixteen, and it'll be the very first birthday she's celebrating with us, so
we're going to make it extra special.
I remember
my sweet sixteen… I'd chosen the theme, A Modern Fairy Tale, because fairy tale
spin-offs were really popular then; and also because I loved that the heroines in
those stories were independent and take-charge. They were the type of person I
wanted to be at sixteen, and I feel like I'm a little closer to that now.
For J's
party, we're going with Golden Age of Hollywood – which sounds amazing, because it'll give us all an
excuse to dress up. And to celebrate, I thought I'll let you girls in on my
Party Planning Bag of Tricks. These are the golden rules I live by when
planning any party – Including J's:
- Plan for everything to go wrong! Because Murphy’s Law. You know there’s a good chance that what can go wrong, will. So it’s best to be prepared with Plan Bs.
- Get a venue that's just the right size for your guest list. Keep it cosy!
- Send your invitations out way in advance too! It'll suck if your friends already have the weekend occupied. You also want to give them enough time to find that perfect outfit.
- Make sure to cater – or cook! – more than enough for your guests. When it comes to parties, more is more.
- Your party playlist should be just the right balance of feel-good and euphoric. Music is key in setting the mood.
- Small door gifts are a nice touch. You want to thank your friends for spending this special day with you.
- And finally, have a smashing good time! Especially if it's your sweet sixteen, because you only get one!
That's all I
have, but feel free to add your own tips in the comments below!
Until next
time,
XOXO Fru Fru
