Hai
Girls,
It’s
time to prioritise myself – to put me first! I don’t just mean me, Shruti… I
mean anyone who’s in a similar phase of their lives as me. It might sound
selfish but sometimes it’s important for focus on your own needs first. We’re
at a time in our lives when we should use this valuable time to acquire the
right skills, habits and knowledge in order to become who we aspire to be.
As
the days go by, I realise how critical this stage of my life really is. I need
to make a big decision regarding my university education that will affect my
career options and ultimately my entire future. That’s why I’ve come to the
conclusion that it’s completely fine to put myself first, and to prioritise my
needs.
The
interesting thing is that my friends are already doing this. M is working hard
on his SAT prep. E is directing all his energy into getting a girlfriend while
P’s priority is to establish herself financially. Though they are doing
drastically different things, they are all actively pursuing the next step in
their life plan.
Inspired
by my friends, this week I decided to make a 5-year life plan. I know that
things may still change and evolve as I go along, but it’s still imperative to
make a plan so that I know where I’m heading. I want to share this with you
girls and hopefully you’ll be encouraged to prioritise yourself and make your
life plans as well! Here we go!
Year 1-3:
·
Study
hard and get an all-round education in the arts and media communications
·
Find
opportunities to participate in media events at university
·
Do
an internship every term break with a media company to gain industry experience
and build my resume and portfolio
·
Keep
blogging and maintaining an active social media presence
Year 4:
·
Have
a good portfolio and CV by the time I graduate
·
Network
and build professional contacts
·
Graduate
university with a second-upper honours!
Year 5:
·
Get
an awesome job at an exciting media company or launch my very own online brand
and be my own media personality!
That’s
it for this week girls! I hope my five-year plan has inspired you to make your
own. Leave it below in the comments because I’d love to know what your
ambitions in life are. Let’s motivate each other, and progress together!
